Members of the Riksdag observe the elections in Moldova

Parliamentary elections will be held in the Republic of Moldova on 20 October. Seven members of the Riksdag will be participating in an international delegation which will observe the elections. A Swedish member is the head of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) delegation.

Around 40 members of parliament from 15 OSCE member states will participate in the observation mission. By being on location in selected parts of the country on election day, the task of the observers is to monitor that the election is open and that it is managed correctly. The members of parliament observe the actual election, the sealing of the ballot papers and the counting of the votes in various polling stations.

The following members of parliament from Sweden are participating:

  • Arin Karapet (Moderate Party)
  • Jessica Rodén (Social Democratic Party)
  • Lars Isacsson (Social Democratic Party)
  • Ulrik Nilsson (Moderate Party)
  • Victoria Tiblom (Sweden Democrats)
  • Yusuf Aydin (Christian Democrats)

Johan Büser (Social Democratic Party) has been appointed to lead and represent the election observers from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly during the observation mission. 

The Swedish MPs will observe the elections in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, as well as in and around the following towns: Balti, Edinet and Rezina.

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is an organisation for security policy dialogue and cooperation in Europe. One of its key tasks is to monitor parliamentary and presidential elections in different countries.

The election-monitoring mission is being arranged in cooperation with the OSCE and its Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The ODIHR has observers in the country for a longer period, before and after the elections.

Press conference on 21 October

A press conference will be held in Chisinau on 21 October, where a preliminary statement on the election will be issued. The statement will be published on the OSCE PA website.
