JPSG Europol invitation to forum for fundamental rights
Published:
The Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol (JPSG) has recently adopted overall provisions for a forum for fundamental rights which will assist the JSPG with independent advice. The Riksdag delegation to the JPSG has participated in this work. The JPSG has now published an invitation for those who wish to be a part of the forum.
The invitation is aimed at individuals and relevant authorities and bodies at EU level and national level, as well as international and intergovernmental organisations, academia and civil society organisations. In order to be suitable for membership of the forum, either documented qualifications, expertise or professional experience are required in the areas of fundamental rights and crime prevention. Expressions of interest may be submitted up until 2 September.
Under the revised Europol regulation which came into force on 1 June 2022, the JSPG will establish an advisory body for fundamental rights. If so requested, the forum will assist the JSPC with independent advice on issues concerning fundamental rights. At a meeting in February 2024, the JSPC adopted the changes to its internal Rules of Procedure which are required in order to establish the forum.
The Riksdag’s JPSG delegation has participated in work to formulate the overall provisions for the forum.
