Possible temporary ban on transport of passengers without ID documents

It will be possible for the Government to introduce rules allowing a temporary ban on the transport of passengers without valid ID documents to Sweden from other countries. It will also be possible for the Government to introduce sanction charges for transport companies who violate the ban. The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal.
It will be possible for the ban to be introduced only if – as a result of events in the area of migration – a serious danger to public order or domestic security has arisen, and if the rules are deemed necessary to ensure that important social functions will be able to fulfil their tasks more easily.
The new act will come into force on 1 March 2024.
