The Riksdag supports the Government's security policy strategy in the Defence Bill

The Riksdag has considered the preconditions and strategy for security policy for the next six years. The strategy is part of the Government’s Total Defence bill for 2025–2030. The Riksdag has expressed its support for the Government's presented strategy for the period in question.
Both the Government and the Riksdag have stated that:
- Sweden’s support to Ukraine must be sustainable and long-term;
- Sweden must be a credible and reliable member of NATO and pursue a solidarity-based alliance policy to strengthen security and stability in our neighbourhood and in the entire Euro-Atlantic area;
- political dialogue and diplomacy are important tools for strengthening Sweden’s security and promoting Swedish interests; and
- climate change poses a threat in itself, increasing international tensions and instability and deepening existing conflicts.
At the same time, the Riksdag decided to reject the proposals on security policy submitted in motions, some forty of which are from the general private members' motions period 2024. The Riksdag refers to the Government's assessments and positions in the bill.
