Lowering of emission reduction obligation for petrol and diesel

The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal for an amendment to the Act on the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from certain fossil fuels.
The amendment states that the requirement of the reduction obligation concerning reduced emissions for petrol and diesel will be lowered to 6 per cent for 2024–2026, and the reduction levels for 2027–2030 will be abolished. At present, the reduction levels are at 7.8 per cent for petrol and 30.5 per cent for diesel.
One purpose of the amendment is to reduce fuel prices.
The amendments will come into force on 1 January 2024.
