Members of the Riksdag to participate in monitoring of the elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Published:

On 2 October, general elections will be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Five Swedish MPs will be included in an international delegation to observe the elections.

MPs from both the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will be participating in the international observation. By being on location in selected parts of the country on election day, the task of the observers is to monitor whether the election is open and is managed correctly. The MPs will observe the actual election, the sealing of the ballot papers and the counting of the votes in various polling stations.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the OSCE, is an organisation for security policy dialogue and cooperation in Europe. One of its important tasks is to monitor parliamentary and presidential elections in different countries.

The election monitoring is arranged by the OSCE, via its Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). The ODIHR has its observers in the country during a longer period both before and after the election.

Around 95 members of parliament from 31 of the member states of the OSCE will participate in the observation of the elections. Four members of the Riksdag delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE are to participate. The Swedish MPs will be located in and around the capital city Sarajevo and in Brčko..
