Andreas Norlén elected Speaker of the Riksdag

The Riksdag has elected Andreas Norlén Speaker for the electoral period 2022–2026. He was elected by acclamation. Acclamation means that the members of the Riksdag react to a proposal by shouting "yes" or "no".

The Speaker leads the work of the Riksdag and is ultimately responsible for how it is planned and conducted. Andreas Norlén was elected Speaker for the first time in 2018. He had previously been a member of the Riksdag for the Moderate party since 2016. His duties included being a member of the Committee on Civil Affairs and the Committee on the Constitution. During the 2014-2018 electoral period, he was Chair of the Committee on the Constitution.

– I would like to thank the members of the Riksdag for entrusting me once again with the responsibility of leading Sweden's most important democratic institution. I am filled not only with a sense of humility, but also with both respect and happiness ahead of my assignment, says Andreas Norlén.
