Increase in required level of means of support for labour migrants

The Government has proposed that labour migrants must have good means of supporting themselves through their employment in order to be granted a work permit. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal.
The purpose of increasing the required level of means of support is to strengthen the labour migrant’s position on the labour market and to counteract competition based on low wages.
The amendments to the law will enter into force on the date determined by the Government.
