European Parliament’s Conference of Presidents visits the Riksdag

On 30 November, First Deputy Speaker Kenneth G Forslund (Social Democratic Party) received the European Parliament's Conference of Presidents under the leadership of President Roberta Metsola, in connection with their visit to the Riksdag.
The Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union will begin on 1 January 2023 and, ahead of each Presidency period, the European Parliament’s Conference of Presidents visits the government, parliament and civil society in the country holding the Presidency.
Topics of discussion at the meeting included the EU’s resilience in the light of Russia’s war against Ukraine with regard to matters such as democracy, the climate and energy. The Conference of Presidents is the second highest decision-making body of the European Parliament after the plenary, and is responsible for the organisation of the European Parliament’s business.
The Riksdag will be leading the work of the parliamentary dimension of the Presidency. Among other things, the Riksdag will be hosting a number of interparliamentary EU conferences for parliamentarians from the parliaments of the member states and the European Parliament.
