The Election Review Board

Anyone who considers that a referendum or parliamentary election has been incorrectly managed can turn to the Election Review Board.

The Election Review Board examines complaints relating to general elections, that is, elections to the parliament, county councils and municipalities, as well as to the Sami Parliament and the European Parliament. Complaints concerning national and municipal referendums can also be examined.

In addition, the Board examines appeals against administrative election matters, such as decisions concerning division into constituencies, registration of party designations and the distribution of seats in constituencies.

The Election Review Board's decisions cannot be appealed. The Board consists of one chair and six members who are all appointed by the Riksdag. The chair shall hold a position, or have previously held a position, as a permanent salaried judge.
