It will be possible to revoke aliens’ passports – which can in certain cases be issued to individuals without a passport and with no opportunity to obtain one – for reasons for security. The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government’s proposal.

Furthermore, it will be possible to revoke a residence permit if it can be assumed that an individual will engage in state-sponsored industrial espionage or activities connected with terrorism. The purpose is to counter threats to Sweden’s security.

The amendments will come into force on 1 March 2024.
