  • President of the Assembly of North Macedonia visits the Riksdag

    The President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi, will pay an official visit to Stockholm on 2–3 December at the invitation of the Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlén.

    The member of the Riksdag Lars Wistedt (Sweden Democrats), Deputy Chair of the Committee on Defence and representing the constituency of Uppsala County, passed away on Monday 25 November during an official visit to Canada.

  • First Deputy Speaker visits Qatar

    The First Deputy Speaker Kenneth G Forslund (Social Democratic Party) will visit Qatar on 25–29 November together with a delegation of members of the Riksdag. The purpose of the visit is, inter alia, to discuss current issues and promote a positive image of Sweden through parliamentary contacts.

    The NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s autumn session takes place in Montreal, Canada on 22–25 November. Six members of the Riksdag delegation will participate and continued support for Ukraine is at the top of the agenda.

    The rules for receiving student finance for transition and retraining – a form of financial support for studies for adults who have already entered the labour market – will be simplified. In addition, individuals already working in shortage occupations will have greater opportunities to receive student finance for transition and retraining. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government’s proposal.

  • New law on vehicle clamping

    The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government’s proposals, among other things, for new vehicle clamping legislation. Clamping means that the vehicle is locked in place and cannot be driven.

  • Debate between party leaders on EU policy

    A debate between party leaders on EU policy was held on Wednesday 13 November. The debate opened with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (Moderate Party) presenting the Government's priorities for its work in the EU, after which the other party leaders delivered their speeches. The debate can be watched on demand on the Riksdag website.

  • Decision to increase members’ pay from 1 January 2025

    The Riksdag Remunerations Board has decided to increase the pay of the members of the Riksdag from 1 January 2025 by SEK 3,000 to SEK 78,500 per month.

  • Annual session of the Nordic Council

    On 28–31 October, the Nordic Council's 76th annual session was held in Reykjavik, Iceland. Peace and Security in the Arctic was the overall theme of the session. Invited guest speakers included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the leader of the democratic movement in Belarus, Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya.

  • Members of the Riksdag observe US election

    A presidential election will be held in the USA on 5 November. Six members of the Riksdag will be included in an international delegation to observe the election.
