The Riksdag has adopted amendments to the central government budget for 2021 in order to give increased support to the elderly care services.
Central government expenditure will increase by approximately SEK 4.3 billion in 2021, money that will be earmarked for the following measures:
- The number employment by the hour positions will decrease, and staff continuity in the elderly care services will increase. For this purpose, SEK 2 billion will be earmarked in 2021 in the form of an achievement-based support.
- Medical expertise is to be increased in the elderly care services. Therefore, SEK 300 million will be earmarked to increase doctors’ skills, SEK 1 billion to increase the number of nurses and SEK 33 million to make it possible for more assistant nurses to obtain further qualifications as specialist assistant nurses.
- The elderly are to be given greater opportunities for secure housing. For this purpose, SEK 1 billion will be earmarked in 2021 for investment support schemes to stimulate reconstruction and new construction of service accommodation and housing on the ordinary housing market for a 65+ target group.
The decision is based on a committee initiative from the Committee on Finance. This means that the proposal has been introduced in a committee and is not based on a government bill or a private member’s motion.
