The Riksdag approved a new agreement on social security between Sweden and the Philippines and thus voted in favour of the Government's proposal.

The agreement contains provisions that coordinate the legislation of both countries regarding old-age, survivors' and disability pensions, and work injury, sickness and activity compensation. The Government's assessment is that the agreement does not entail any new obligations or costs for Sweden.

Mobility between Sweden and the Philippines has increased in recent years. Many Filipinos work in Sweden and a number of Swedish companies are established in the Philippines. The Government therefore considers that an agreement on social security is needed to facilitate mobility.
