The Speaker Andreas Norlén has given Stefan Löfven (Social Democratic Party) the task of exploring the possibilities of forming a government.

"I have decided to give Stefan Löfven the task of exploring the possibilities of forming a government. Like the task I gave to Ulf Kristersson, Stefan Löfven's task is about exploring the possibilities of forming a government that can be tolerated by the Riksdag. I have not specified any criteria regarding the basis of the government or any other criteria that limit the task. Stefen Löfven is to submit a final report to me by 29 October at the latest, with a progress report by no later than 22 October," says the Speaker Andreas Norlén.

The Speaker met the leader of the Moderate Party Ulf Kristersson on 14 October. On Monday 15 October, the Speaker has held talks with representatives of seven of the parties in the Riksdag, conferred with the Deputy Speakers and once again spoken to leader of the Social Democratic Party Stefan Löfven. The Speaker has also informed King Carl XVI Gustaf of the progress regarding the assignment of presenting a proposal for a new Prime Minister.

Background
