More sectors of industry will need to introduce staff registers

More companies are to be affected by the requirement to keep staff registers at their place of work. This will apply to the vehicle service industry, the food and tobacco wholesale business and the beauty and toiletry industry. If the owner of a business carries on both activities that require him or her to keep a staff register and other activities in the same premises, the staff register must also contain information on the people who are working with the other activities.

Today, the restaurant, laundry, construction and hairdressing businesses are required to keep a staff register at their place of work. A staff register is a list of people working at a particular workplace. The purpose of having a staff register is to make it easier for the Tax Agency to discover and combat the occurrence of unregistered labour.

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal and the amendments will come into force on 1 July 2018.
