The Riksdag has approved the Government's proposal that land and water areas owned by the state in the municipalities of Alvesta and Tingsryd are to be made into Åsnen National Park. Åsnen National Park will be Sweden's 30th national park.

The purpose of making the Åsnen district of Småland a national park is to preserve a representative, varied and biologically valuable Southern Swedish landscape consisting of forests and lakes in which flora and fauna are to a great extent still untouched.

The Riksdag has also approved that the Sånfjället National Park will now be called the Sonfjället National Park and the Trestickla National Park will now be called the Tresticklan National Park.
