Police to be given powers to conduct more workplace inspections

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal to give the Swedish Police Authority greater scope to conduct workplace inspections, in order to check that employers are not employing people without the right to remain or work in Sweden.

These workplace inspections are to be limited to sectors assessed by the Police Authority as being at particular risk of such employment methods. The penalty an employer may be obliged to pay if he or she has employed someone without the right to remain or work in Sweden is also to be raised.

The Riksdag voted against the two motions put forward in connection with the proposal. The amendments will come into force on 1 July 2018.
