New regulations are to be introduced for unemployment insurance. These will include clearer rules regarding unemployment insurance for people holding positions of special responsibility outside of regular employment.

Positions of special responsibility that give a person the legal right to be on leave of absence from regular employment are to be covered by unemployment insurance. Such positions are to be treated in the same way as regular employment provided normal working hours and compensation apply to these positions.

The regulations for unemployment insurance and pensions are also to be coordinated. If a person receives pension from gainful employment, his or her unemployment insurance is to be reduced by an amount equal to that of the pension. The right to be a member of an unemployment insurance fund is to be extended and is to apply until the end of the month preceding the month during which the person wishing to be a member reaches his/her 65th birthday.

The new regulations will come into force on 2 July 2018. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal.
