Next step in the formation of a government

The Speaker Andreas Norlén has allowed for more time before a proposal for prime minister is presented to the Riksdag.

"I have been given information that several parties are to commence negotiations on the matter of forming a government. I have therefore deemed it reasonable to allow for more time for these negotiations," says the Speaker Andreas Norlén.

Stefan Löfven (Social Democratic Party) will give his first report to the Speaker on the the development of the process on Friday, 7 December, with a follow-up report on Monday, 10 December. The Speaker will then comment on the the next step in the formation of a government.

The activities preciously announced for Wednesday, 5 December, that is the presentation of a proposal for a prime minister and a press meeting, have therefore been postponed. New dates will be announced later.


On Thursday 27 September, the Speaker started the assignment of preparing a proposal for a new Prime Minister for the Riksdag to take a stand on. The assignment includes interview rounds with representatives of all the parties in the Riksdag and deliberations with the Deputy Speakers. The Speaker is also keeping King Carl XVI Gustaf informed of the situation regarding the assignment of presenting a proposal for a new Prime Minister.
