Focus on the peace process during visit of the First Deputy Speaker to Cyprus

On 19-21 February the First Deputy Speaker Tobias Billström (Moderate Party) visited Cyprus together with a delegation of members of the Riksdag.

"Cyprus' future and the peace process were the focus of our talks during the visit. Sweden confirmed its strong commitment to Cyprus, in particular through our long-term participation in the peacekeeping operation UNFICYP. The delegation also expressed its hopes for the launch of a process to reunify Cyprus", says Tobias Billström.

The First Deputy Speaker and delegation had meetings with, among others, the President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris, President Nicos Anastasiades, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, the Mayor of Famagusta and members of parliament.

The delegation from the Riksdag included the MPs Lennart Axelsson (Social Democratic Party), Kerstin Nilsson (Social Democratic Party), Michael Svensson (Moderate Party) and Richard Jomshof (Sweden Democrats).
