The meeting was led by the Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Andrej Danko, and was devoted to the role of the EU and the national parliaments in a global world, as well as to an exchange of experiences about openness and transparency in the parliamentary process. The Speakers discussed the ways in which the EU can meet today’s challenges and welcomed the fact that the future of the EU is being debated both in the national parliaments and at EU level. The Speakers also agreed on basic working procedures for the joint parliamentary scrutiny group for Europol’s activities.

“It is very pleasing to see that a good solution has been found for this complicated issue, thanks to good cooperation. The Riksdag will be appointing up to four members for the scrutiny group and the working procedures will be followed up in two years’ time”, says Urban Ahlin.
