Visit by the Speaker to the Czech Republic

On 9-11 November, the Speaker Urban Ahlin made an official visit to the Czech Republic together with a delegation of members of the Riksdag. During the visit, the Speaker met the President of the Senate Milan Štěch, the President of the Chamber of Deputies Jan Hamáček and Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka.

"Sweden and the Czech Republic have many issues of common interest. We have, among other things, spoken about international issues, EU cooperation and how the national parliaments can improve their cooperation in order to contribute to a smoothly functioning EU", says the Speaker Urban Ahlin.

The delegation included members of the Riksdag Marianne Pettersson (Social Democratic Party), Elin Lundgren (Social Democratic Party), Christian Holm Barenfeld (Moderate Party) and Markus Wiechel (Sweden Democrats).

In addition to the meetings with the President of the Senate Milan Štěch, the President of the Chamber of Deputies Jan Hamáček and Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, the Speaker Urban Ahlin and delegation also met the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee with its Chair Karl Schwarzenberg, the European Affairs Committee with its Chair Ondrej Benesik and Deputy Foreign Minister Vaclav Kolaja.

Furthermore, the programme included meetings with parliamentarians and organisations working with media freedom and anti-corruption issues.
