The Riksdag has voted in favour of a proposal from the Government to extend Swedish participation in the UN mission in Mali. Sweden is to participate with an armed force consisting of a maximum of 470 people in the current UN mission in Mali until the end of June 2017. The decision will apply on condition that the mandate for the force is extended by the UN Security Council.

At the same time, the Riksdag submitted two recommendations, known as announcements, to the Government:

The Government should formulate clear objectives for Swedish participation in the UN mission which would subsequently enable an evaluation to be made and see whether the objectives have been met.The Government should take initiatives to ensure that facilities for medical evacuation for the Swedish force are sufficient twenty-four hours a day.
