Focus on Brexit when the Speaker visited the UK

On 5-6 December, the Speaker Urban Ahlin led a delegation of members of the Riksdag during an official visit to the UK. The programme included meetings with Lord Fowler, Speaker of the House of Lords, John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons and Minister David Lidington.

The Speaker and the Riksdag delegation also had meetings with members of the House of Commons Exiting the European Union Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee and the British-Swedish Parliamentary Friendship Association.

The discussions largely focused on Brexit, among other things, on the UK's preparation process, and possible scenarios for the future. Foreign policy issues and parliamentary cooperation between Sweden and the UK were also discussed.

In addition to the Speaker, the delegation included members of the Riksdag Hanna Westerén (Social Democratic Party), Ewa Thalén Finné (Moderate Party), Mikael Jansson (Sweden Democrats), Birgitta Ohlsson (Liberal Party) and Secretary-General of the Riksdag Kathrin Flossing.
