Greater requirements are to be introduced concerning countries to which Sweden exports military equipment. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal.
In order to be granted permission to receive military equipment, the country in question shall respect human rights, have a high democratic status, and the import of military equipment must not counteract fair and sustainable development in the country.
The purpose of the changes is to ensure that Sweden only exports military equipment to countries that are considered to be acceptable. The changes do not entail any amendments to the law, but only to the principles regulating the granting of authorisation for the export of military equipment. The changes will come into force on 15 April 2018.
