The Riksdag has 349 members who are chosen by Sweden's citizens every four years in general elections. In the performance of their duties the members of the Riksdag must ensure that the decisions taken by the Riksdag are permeated by the people's will.
The members of the Riksdag devote a considerable share of their time to work in the committees where the Riksdag's decisions are considered. Other important tasks include writing private members' motions and addressing interpellations and questions to Government ministers.
